My High School Leavers Do

Hello everyone.

Seeing as I did a big old blog last week due to me, ahem, skipping a week I didn't want to make it even longer with lots of photos so I thought I'd add a separate wee extra blog here including some of the professional photos taken from my High School Leavers Do as well as some of my own photos. You can read my last blog which described the lovely evening HERE. I will still resume with my normal blog tomorrow! See you then.

Hope you enjoy,

Mollie

The Busiest of Bees

Hello everyone.

I know… I did a terrible thing and did not do last week’s post. I am very sorry. It’s been a little hectic though and I shall fill you in with everything from the past two weeks.
But before I go on I would like to say that last week my blog's page views reached 1000! Thankyou to everyone who reads my posts and follows my blog, it means a lot.

Now, in my last post (if you can remember that far back…) I talked about lots of exciting things coming up including a sleepover with friends, party and of course the school show and my Highschool Leavers Do. These are all of course now over and done and were a lot of fun.

The three performances of the school show we did I am glad to say went off with only a few glitches here and there (as is accustomed) and everyone who came to see it were very impressed. It was amazing to be a part of- especially as it was the last ever school show that me and my friends will be in due to us now having left school. *sad face*
Though I had a smaller part as a maid to one of the protagonists it was so much fun. My role mainly involved fluttering on and off stage a lot with a few lines here and there and delivering tea. Basically, I was a waitress. I'm a waitress playing a waitress-trust me. I did however have one scene I very much enjoyed which included my character becoming very stressed by all that was going on in the story of the play and so she runs off-stage with her apron over her face. The audience always laughed which was an amazing feeling however I’m sure they would have laughed more if they’d seen the trouble I had coming to a stop once I ran off-stage with a not-so-see-through apron over my face.

Serving the tea and cakes.

The school shows have been a big part of my highschool time and are where I have met and bonded with my closest friends so when the curtains closed for the final time there was a little sadness in my smile.

This sadness I’m afraid to say did not only come from the end of the show. Last Monday one of our dogs, Bonnie, began to show signs of being ill and after taking her to the vet on Wednesday we found out that she had a womb infection.
In my family, our dogs (which are huge leonbergers..google them!) have become as much a part of our family as me and my sisters so we were naturally all very emotional. This emotion was heightened following Bonnie’s operation to remove her womb when we were told she also had anemia and there was little hope for her recovering.
Last Sunday morning, the day after my Leavers Do, my mum called my friend’s house where I was staying that night and told me the heartbreaking news that Bonnie had died earlier that morning. I was speechless.
I’m sorry to include this sad event in my blog but it is of great importance to me and so I felt I should include it.
Bonnie was one of the puppies from our other two dogs’ litter. She was the last pup left to be sold but never was as she was just too precious so we kept her.
She was a beautiful dog with the kindest, gentlest nature and she will leave a big paw print on all of our hearts.

On a happier note, the other main event that took place last week was of course my year’s Highschool Leavers Do (not in anyway affiliated with Arran High School). This Leavers Do has given our year more trouble than you would believe. To begin with our Head Teacher was more than a little unsupportive of our plans. This is because every year he plans for the school to organise a 6th year leavers do right before our exams when we haven’t even officially left school yet and are too busy studying to have a party and so every year he falls out with the present 6th years when they politely refuse and organise one for themselves-hence my previous comment in the brackets. Our Head Teacher was so against us doing this-as he has been with every sixth year- that he told the school office to refuse any help to us with contacts etc. and tried to arrange another staff event on the day of the Leavers Do we organised so that they couldn’t attend. This plan luckily failed but goodness me it’s been some work. Are all Head Teachers that stubborn? Suffice to say he and the Deputy Head teachers did not attend our Do.
Anyway, this is why we have had to all organise it ourselves (and pretty successfully I might say). It took place at a hotel on the island owned by the parents of a girl in our year which was convenient. It included a meal and dance in a beautifully decorated room with everyone in our year plus all of our teachers. It was truly lovely as we were able to see teachers who had left the school/retired. There were also photographs taken for our island’s newspaper and some professional ones which we could buy. Me and my friends very nearly missed these photographs however.
As I have mentioned a few times I work with three of my bestfriends at a café/shop on the island in the main town and so this means we can’t all have the same days off. Therefore me and my friend Kirsty were working the day of the Leavers Do. Luckily our lovely manager told us we could leave early to drive all the way to the other side of the island to get ready and go to the Do so long as it wasn’t too busy and as typical luck would have it about ten minutes before we were supposed to leave the place was packed. I don’t think I’ve ever made coffees and taken orders as quickly as I did then. However many many customers and about half an hour later we were on our way. This left us with an hour and a half to get ready which if you know me then four hours is pushing it. We did get ready in time though and with the mandatory ‘photos for the parents’ taken we made it just in time for the professional photographs. Phew.

After the photographs we mingled with old teachers before sitting down at our tables for the meal and speeches. The food was lovely as was the company. After that the music came on and the dancing started. I say that but to begin with the only people on the dancefloor were me and my friends. That didn’t stop us from busting some moves though. No shame.

Our amazing now retired English teacher
Our table. Number one..quite fitting wouldn't you say? :P
 The clan.

This week has been slightly less eventful as I have been working but I did have a much-needed sleepover with friends which was intended to be a Disney Film Night however after catching up and taking photos we ended up watching only one Disney film. Successful mission? ... hmm. We are rescheduling for another though because you are NEVER too old for Disney.

Just chilling.
Makeovers anyone? Typical girls.

I think that covers everything of interest that has occurred in the past two weeks. Some happy occasions, some not so happy but what all of these events have sparked are some beautiful memories in the school show, the Leavers Do and the life of our beautiful Bonnie.

I hope you’ve had a lovely few weeks and I will definitely see you next Thursday. Promise. With love,

Mollie

Ink and Paint

Hello everyone.

I feel like I need a new opening to my posts rather than “Hello everyone”..hmm. Any suggestions?

So this week I have finally managed to focus my attention (for at least 30 minutes every 3 hours…) on admin revision.  There’s been quite a lot even though I've only this year got one exam (my other subjects don’t have an exam). I've been through 2+ pens. And now it’s all finished as I sat my exam today and I think it went okay.
I always surprise myself when I’m revising at my ability to find so many new interesting hobbies and interests in order to distract myself in any way possible from the revision I’m trying to do. In one of my many breaks I even developed a whole business that I’d like to run complete with product lists and some price ideas. Yes it really went there.
Something I've been enjoying about revision is that I've had time to just sit out in the sun all day. It’s almost made revision fun. Almost.

A beautiful view from where I was revising

My bedroom floor right now. So many pieces of paper and books.

As well as revising however I've had my Advanced Higher Art folio to complete and stick down and it had almost slipped my mind with the thought of Admin being at the top of my list. However after a little panic moment on Tuesday evening thinking I’d never get it done in time I decided to risk losing a day of revision on Wednesday and make-up for it one Thursday so that I could do my art. It seemed to work and things are back in control. Phew.

Here's a sneak peak of some of my artwork:

I will hopefully be selling some of my art/prints of my artwork once it is returned from the SQA. I also have lots of other plans for it too...exciting.

Now I have my new job to think about. I can't wait. My first day/training day is this Sunday so I’m preparing myself and hoping that my waitressing experience from my last job will help me out. It’s great to know that my best friend is starting work there with me and my other best friends already work there. I’ll always have someone to answer my questions and spend my lunch breaks with.

I think that’s it for this update as I haven’t really anything more to tell you as I've been mostly sat revising all week. *sigh*. I hope you've had a lovely week and been able to enjoy some beautiful weather.

Highschool Memories

Hello everyone.

How have you been spending your week? I’ve spent mine chilling out, studying and planning for the future. I’ve also spent a large proportion of my time wondering around the house thinking “what should I do?!”. This has been my first week of no-school since leaving (read about my last day HERE) and it’s fair to say I am missing the structure of a school day. It’s so easy to get distracted at home and for plans to be delayed with the excuse, “I have plenty of time”. Deary me. I’ve decided I’m going to take the necessary measures and begin scheduling my day more effectively and sticking to that schedule. I hope this is just a phase.
In other news I found out this week that I have in fact got the job I applied for! Yay! This means I can spend my summer waitressing with three of my best friends.

Anyway, to the point of this post, I would like to share with you my experience and memories from my time at Arran High School.

I began my first year of high school in 2007. This was a terrifying time for me as I was not only entering into a new school but I was entering into school itself. I was home-schooled with my two sisters from primary six to primary seven so I had not experienced being in a school building and learning with people other than my sisters and parents for two years. Scary stuff. I remember on the three full practice days at high school when everyone else was dressed in their primary school uniform I was dressed in a white shirt feeling very out of place. I also remember for the first time hearing someone from my old primary swear and being shocked to the core. How innocent I was.
Luckily for me I managed to make friends quite quickly as most of the girls in my year were lovely and welcoming. I remember that we all used to meet at the front of the high school in the morning and the boys would all meet a few feet away from us (I mean, they wouldn’t want to catch our girl-germs would they?) and whenever someone arrived, we would all hug them as though we hadn’t just seen them the day before.
“Darling it’s been so long…*kiss kiss*”
My first-year of high school went pretty well and I met lots of friends who are some of my best-friends today. My class was also the first first-year class in the new high school which was built just behind the old (very old) one.

My second-year was very much the same; me and my friends spent our lunch-times on the swings or slide outside whilst taking lots of photos, I got into bother about wearing various scarves and necklaces in an attempt to jazz-up my uniform, I was still very shy and quiet when not around my best friends and boys were still an un-known species. Me and my friends also took part in the school's Stars In Their Eyes contest as "Girls Aloud plus 1". I can't believe we had the courage to do that back then!

Third-year was when we got to choose some of our subjects for the first time. It was in my third-year that I got to take business management for the first time and met the very inspiring and lovely teacher of that subject. That was also the year that I first took part in one of the school shows. It was We Will Rock You and me and some of my friends were in the chorus so we were on stage a lot with lots of different costumes. I absolutely loved it and have taken part in every school show since: Midsummer Nights Dream, Wizard of Oz and this year’s Importance of Being Earnest.

Fourth-year was when I had my first proper boyfriend. He was called Robbie and we went out for 6 months. I also experienced exams for the first time with my Standard Grades and despite all the sleepless nights and tears, I didn't do too badly!
I uploaded my first Youtube video in fourth-year too.

Fifth-year was the year of the “real” exams though-Highers and Intermediate 2s. I took Higher Art and Design, Business Management, Graphic Communication and English and Intermediate 2 Maths. With a lot of hard work I managed to achieve 3 As in Art, Business Management and English, a B in Graphcom at Higher and an A in my Intermediate 2 Maths.
This was also the year that I feel I began to find myself as a person and realise my love for film-making. My confidence grew a little more in fifth-year and I applied to become a prefect. However, to my utter disappointment, I wasn’t successful.

In sixth-year I re-applied and this time I was successful! I also applied for the role of Head Girl and after an interview stage I was made Deputy Head Girl and one of my current best-friends was made Head Girl! That more than made up for being turned down as a prefect in fifth-year to me.
This year, me and my best-friend set up a Scripture Union group in our school with the help of our other best-friend (Miss Head Girl who I previously mentioned) which has been a goal of mine since I was little. It turned out to be successful and I’m hoping to continue supporting it during my gap year!
I also had the amazing opportunity to take part in a short-film with my friends in our Island’s McLellan Festival. I got to learn some film-production skills, use film equipment and act as the character Rosalind in the film. It was truly amazing to be a part of. My name suggestion for the film title also ended up being the chosen one!

Now here I am a week on from my last day of school. It really has been the best time of my life so far and I have so many amazing memories. I also have some truly amazing friendships which I am so grateful for.
Now I can’t wait for my class’ Leavers Do Party in June!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely week and I’d love to hear some of your memories from high school in the comments!
